The other gold purities
Every purity holds a different share of pure gold, so each is worth a different amount per gram. Check the hallmark on your piece and use the matching row.
24K · 999
24K × 1
Pure investment gold: bars, minted ingots and bullion coins. Too soft for jewellery worn every day, which is why European jewellers rarely use it.
22K · 916
24K × 0.916
The purity of British gold sovereigns and bullion coins such as the Krugerrand. Also the standard for Indian and Middle Eastern jewellery.
18K · 750
24K × 0.750
The European jewellery standard (hallmark 750): wedding bands, rings, chains and bracelets. The best balance between gold content and durability.
14K · 585
24K × 0.585
Very common in the US, Germany and Eastern Europe. Harder and more scratch-resistant: typical of everyday rings and imported pieces.
9K · 375
24K × 0.375
The lowest purity allowed in Italy and very common in the UK (hallmark 375). Used in budget jewellery and gold-plated-look pieces.

Frequently asked questions
- What is the gold price per gram today?
- The live 24K gold price per gram, in both euros and US dollars, is shown at the top of this page and updates every minute based on the international spot price and the EUR/USD exchange rate.
- How much is 18K gold worth per gram?
- Take the 24K price per gram and multiply it by 0.75, since 18K gold is 75% pure. That gives you the theoretical melt value before any dealer margin.
- How much do gold buyers really pay?
- Most reputable gold buyers pay between 70% and 90% of the theoretical melt value, keeping the rest to cover refining and their margin. Anything below 70% is worth negotiating.
- Is the price the same everywhere?
- The underlying spot price is global and identical everywhere. What changes is the margin each individual buyer or jeweler applies on top.
- Does the weight include stones and clasps?
- No. Only the metal itself is weighed and valued; stones, pearls and non-gold clasps or fittings are excluded from the calculation.
