From troy ounce to price per gram
Gold trades globally in US dollars per troy ounce. To get the price per gram, divide the spot ounce price by 31.1035, then apply the live EUR/USD exchange rate. That's why prices here are shown in both euros and their dollar equivalent.
This calculation applies to pure 24K gold. For any other purity, multiply that per-gram figure by the relevant factor: 22K ×0.916, 18K ×0.75, 14K ×0.585, 9K ×0.375.
Calculate your gramsReading the purity table correctly
The 'theoretical value' column is the price of the pure gold content only — it assumes 100% payout, which no buyer actually offers. Use the discounted column, roughly 80% of theoretical value, as a realistic benchmark for a fair gold-buyer offer.
European hallmarks make it easy to identify purity: look for 999 (24K), 916 (22K), 750 (18K), 585 (14K) or 375 (9K) stamped on the piece before you calculate its value.
